9:00 to 10:00 Chris Jones: "Plant Selections for Rim Country"
Chris is the University of Arizona's Gila County Cooperative Extension Agent based in Globe, Arizona. He has over 13 years of experience conducting forestry, agriculture and natural resources program planning. His extension programming includes the Master Gardener program, Master Watershed Stewards, forest health education and noxious weed management. Chris earned a B.S. in Forestry from Northern Arizona University and a M.S. in Renewable Natural Resources at the University of Arizona. Dr. Riley, associate professor at the University of Arizona, specializes in improving water management and conservation in aridlands. In particular he is working on rainwater harvesting as an important source of water and halophyte irrigation as a means of utilizing brine streams from power plants and desalting plants. He has spent the greater part of his professional career in the administration of international agricultural research and development programs outside the United States. His degrees are: Ph.D., Hydrology, M.S., Meteorology, B.S., Mathematics, all from The University of Arizona
11:15 to 11:30 Break 11:30 to 12:30 Marty deMasi: "Firewise Your Yard and Your Community"
This will be a discussion on what Firewise concepts can be applied to make your property more fire safe as well as the bigger picture of community safety efforts. Martin deMasi is the Fire Chief and 31 year veteran of the Payson Fire Department. He started his fire service career as a Forest Service Hotshot crewmember and has held virtually all ranks of the department. He is a graduate of Grand Canyon University and the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy.
12:30 to 2:00 Stroll through the demonstration garden, see all the beautiful plants on display, visit the information booths, talk to the various experts, pick up free literature and be inspired.
Scoops will be there with ice cream novelties and hand scooped ice cream The raffle drawing for the handmade porch swing will be immediately after Mr. deMasi's presentation
